Where I live: I live in Hillcrest in a century-old house built in 1911 by prominent Little Rock residents, J. Rudy Smith and Mary Grace Harrow Smith. I enjoy this historic home with my husband, Jon, our two sons, Grant, 9, and Jude, 7, and our Labradoodle, Harper. I love that our street and entire neighborhood have a strong sense of community.

Occupation: After medical school and working as a pediatric allergist, I decided to switch gears and enter the field of interior design.

My favorite space is: Our living room/entryway.

Why? The living room is the heart of our home and a gathering place for family and friends. It's not uncommon for five or six neighborhood kids to be wandering in and out while playing with our boys. I designed the space to be warm, comfortable and inviting while staying true to the historical character of the house. And I chose furniture and fabrics to withstand the stress of young boys as well as maintain a certain formality. Jon and I sometimes have a glass of wine in here after the boys have gone to bed. I enjoy thinking about the people who lived here before us and the stories the walls could tell.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Refinishing the original hardwood floors and repainting all the trim are already on the list.
