U.S. 278 work’s second phase in Drew County starts

Road work on U.S. 278 about two miles east of Monticello in Drew County will require a rolling lane closure, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department has said.

Crews will be installing rumble strips along the shoulders and the centerline through a pair of curves that have been the site of “several lane and roadway departure crashes in recent years, especially for drivers less familiar with the highway,” state highway officials said.

In December, crews completed the first stage of the work, when they removed and replaced the top two inches of asphalt on that section of the highway and painted new striping, providing better traction and visibility, the department said.

Drivers are urged to use caution while driving through the area, which will undergo rolling lane closures and will periodically be controlled by flaggers.
