2 dead in Memphis grocery store shooting

A husband and wife are dead after an early morning shooting at a Memphis grocery store, police say.

About 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, a 39-year-old woman arrived to work at the Kroger at 1212 E. Shelby Drive in a red vehicle, Memphis Police Department spokesman Sgt. Alyssa Macon-Moore said in a news release.

When she got to the store, her 36-year-old husband rammed his gray sport utility vehicle into the woman's vehicle on the driver’s side, Macon-Moore said.

The woman got out of her vehicle through the passenger door, and started to run as her husband fired shots at her, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, he saw a woman lying on the ground and a man, who was armed with a gun. The man then pointed the gun at the officer and told the officer to kill him and then shot himself, Macon-Moore said.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene, and the man was transported to Regional One Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The names of the victims have not been released.
