SOFTBALL

Big inning lifts Hogs

Arkansas used a five-run fifth inning to break a six-game losing streak Tuesday with a 6-2 victory over Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Ala.

Leading 1-0 going into the fifth inning, senior Megan Person started the inning with a single to right field. Freshman Tori Cooper followed with another single and senior Devon Wallace hit a base hit to right field to give the Razorbacks (14-17) a 2-0 lead.

A fielding error and a throwing error by Jacksonville State allowed a second run to score on the play and Wallace stopped at third base. She scored on a Stephanie Canfield base hit to give the Razorbacks a 4-0 lead. They took a 5-0 lead on a squeeze bunt by Jessica Harrison. Loren Krzysko capped the inning with an RBI double down the right field line for a 6-0 lead.

Sydney Wright (9-7) earned the victory for the Razorbacks, allowing two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

GOLF

UALR men win in Louisiana

The UALR men's team earned its first victory of the season Tuesday in the Wallace Jones Invitational at Black Bear Golf Course in Delhi, La. The Trojans tied for the top spot with host Louisiana-Monroe with team scores of 861 but earned the victory though a tiebreaker counting both teams' fifth individual score.

Linus Yip moved up two spots in Tuesday's final round and fired a 3-under-par 69 to earn a career-best third-place finish to lead UALR. Alfred Kerstis tied for fifth place at 2-under after an even-par 72 on Tuesday.

BASEBALL

Harding, UAFS split doubleheader

Harding (15-14) extended its winning streak to five games with a 4-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Arkansas-Fort Smith (14-8) on Tuesday in Searcy but saw the streak end with a 7-3 loss in the second game.

Noah Chandler went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and three Harding pitchers limited UAFS to five hits in the first game. Harding freshman Reed Roberts struck out four in three scoreless innings of relief to get the victory for Harding and Zac Stewart pitched a perfect seventh inning for his fourth save.

UAFS pitcher Kellen Smith struck out 12 in a complete-game victory in the second game. Bryce Neal went 3 for 4 with 1 home run and 3 RBI to lead the Lions offensively, while Ozzie Hunt went 4 for 4 with 1 run scored. Andrew Ralston took the loss for Harding after allowing two earned runs in two innings.

OBU edges UAM

Ouachita Baptist scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Arkansas-Monticello 9-8 on Tuesday in a nonconference game at Rab Rogers Field in Arkadelphia.

Corey Wood, who finished 4 for 6 with 4 RBI, gave UAM an 8-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning with a home run. Five consecutive OBU batters reached base safely in the bottom of the eighth. Jace Melby and Reuben Miller started the rally with two singles, then consecutive walks scored a run to cut the lead to 8-7. Kyle Alexander hit a two-run single with two outs, scoring Miller and Drew Feuerbacher, to set the final margin.
