Fort Smith man sentenced on drug trafficking charges

A Fort Smith man has been sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison for his role in a drug trafficking organization, U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge announced Thursday.

William Alexander, 33, also known as "Weenie," was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in the Western District of Arkansas on one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, Eldridge said in a news release.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents learned about large quantities of methamphetamine being distributed out of Fort Smith in November 2013 by a drug trafficking organization Alexander was involved with, the release states.

Officers followed Alexander and Rosa Sharon, 50, of Fort Smith, from Oklahoma to Fort Smith in July 2013 and found seven pounds of methamphetamine in their vehicle during a traffic stop, Eldridge said.

Alexander admitted to the charge and later pleaded guilty, the release states.

Sharon pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in November 2014 and will be sentenced at a later date, Eldridge said.
