Passenger killed, driver hurt in U.S. 67 collision

A passenger was killed and a driver hurt Wednesday when the vehicle they were in crashed into the rear of a semi truck that was pulling onto U.S. 67/167 in Pulaski County, authorities said.

It happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. near the 12-mile marker, which is in the Jacksonville area.

According to an Arkansas State Police report, a 2005 Freightliner truck was pulling onto the northbound highway from the shoulder when it was hit from behind by a 2003 Chevrolet.

A passenger in the Chevrolet, 91-year-old Dorothy Harris of Cabot, suffered fatal injuries, police said. The driver, 84-year-old Homer Harris of Cabot, was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock with unspecified injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The death was the 104th in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
