Arkansas’ unemployment rate falls to 5.5%

Arkansas’ unemployment rate declined in February to 5.5 percent, one-tenth of a percentage point lower than in January, the state Department of Workforce Services said Friday.

The state’s civilian labor force gained 4,900 workers as 5,800 more became employed and 900 left the workforce, Workforce Services spokesman Becky Heflin said in a statement.

“Arkansas added 5,800 employed this month, a gain of 42,900 since February 2014,” Heflin said. “Employment has steadily increased each month since December 2013.”

Meanwhile, the national unemployment also reached 5.5 percent as it dropped two-tenths of a percentage point between January and February.
