Electronics pickup program sets start

The Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction District will start its new electronics recycling program for Pulaski County businesses next week, district officials said Thursday.

The district will begin advertising for the program Monday, although the 800 number for businesses to call for information about the program won’t start until Wednesday, district Deputy Director Carol Bevis said.

Businesses interested in having the district collect their electronics waste for recycling can sign up online.

LR storm-drain art plan gets due date

Artists have until April 3 to submit an application and designs for artwork to be displayed on Little Rock storm drains as part of a project to decrease littering in the drains.

The city , Audubon Arkansas and numerous other agencies have formed a coalition dedicated to raising awareness on protecting local streams, according to a city of Little Rock news release. Storm drains flow directly into streams.

The coalition is seeking 18 artists to paint murals on designated storm drains to educate people on the impact of littering in the drains.

Comment session set on farm permit

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality is holding a public hearing on a permit modification for C&H Hog Farms in Mount Judea.

The hearing will be at 6 p.m. April 20 at the Jasper School District Cafetorium, according to a department news release.

The hog farm wants to use a tanker wagon in its application of wastewater from what it calls Waste Storage Pond 2. The farm already uses a tanker wagon on Waste Storage Pond 1.

The public comment period ends April 17 at 4:30 p.m., after which the department will decide whether to grant the change.

“Only comments directly pertaining to the modification will be considered,” the release states.
