Man arrested in Texarkana convenience store robbery, assault

A Texarkana man was arrested Friday morning after purportedly assaulting two employees at the convenience store he was attempting to rob, police say.

About 8:00 a.m., David Clark, 24, entered the Texarkana Stop and Shop at 1804 E. Ninth St. and proceeded to the counter with several items, Texarkana Police Department spokesman Officer Kristi Mitchell said in a statement.

When a store employee began ringing up his items, Clark reached over the counter and cut the employee’s neck with a “sharp object,” then ran behind the counter and cut a second employee, Mitchell said.

Clark unsuccessfully attempted to open the register, then left the scene on foot, police said.

Responding officers found one employee “bleeding profusely from a large neck wound unable to speak,” and the other with a deep cut in his abdominal area, Mitchell said.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Clark was arrested on attempted capital murder, aggravated robbery and second degree battery charges.
