Remains found near Stuttgart identified as missing man

Remains found east of Stuttgart on Wednesday have been identified as those of a missing Stuttgart man, police say.

The state medical examiner notified Arkansas State Police on Thursday that the remains are those of William "Bill" Gibbs, 62, who went missing Nov. 27, 2014, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said in an email.

The body was found in a drainage ditch along Hartz Seed Road, the same area authorities searched for Gibbs when he disappeared, Sadler said.

Gibbs' vehicle was found in that same area with the engine still running when he went missing last year, according to a Facebook page Gibbs' family created to post information about his disappearance.

The family was offering a $10,000 reward for his safe return, according to the Facebook page.

The remains were transported to the state Crime Laboratory where they were identified, the email states.

The manner and cause of death is still unknown, Sadler said.
