Washington County Sheriff's deputies, employees recognized for going above and beyond

FAYETTEVILLE -- Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies were honored for their community dedication, commitment to the office and years of service during an awards ceremony Thursday afternoon, said Steve Whitmill, administrative captain.

"These folks are not just doing their jobs, they are going over and above what their job is. They are providing a great service to the public," Whitmill said. "The public needs to know the kind of quality representatives working for them."

Lt. Mike Cambron, Lt. Chris Reeser, Sgt. Kevin East, Cpl. Tim Cobb and Cpl. Justin Alderson were awarded the Sheriff's Unit Citation for being involved in the creation and implementation of a new disciplinary hearing policy and procedure for detainees, according to a news release Thursday.

The Commendation Bar, the highest award, was given to Sgt. Shane Brewer, Sgt. Jeremy Fuller, Sgt. Mike Arnold, Cpl. Dustin Long and Brian MaGee, deputy first class, for assisting a Texas deputy in a detainee transport, according to the release.

The Community Service Award was presented to Trenton Pretty, deputy first class, who went beyond required duties to assist a family in need.

About 200 people attended the ceremony, which also honored people with 10 or more years of service, Whitmill said.

The awardees are chosen via nomination and vetted by a committee, so it is an important recognition by peers and the Sheriff's Office as a whole, Whitmill said. The next awards and promotional ceremony will be in October.
