ARKANSAS STATE 10, LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE 4

Ty White had three hits and Arkansas State (11-12, 3-6 Sun Belt Conference) defeated Louisiana-Lafayette (13-10, 5-4) on Friday night at M.L. Tigue Moore Field in Lafayette, La.

White finished 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and scored 1 run. Joe Schrimpf and Jeremy Brown had two hits each for ASU, which outhit Louisiana-Lafayette 11-6.

Zack George put ASU on top 3-2 in the top of the fifth with an infield single that scored Brown. Two batters later, Austin Baker came home on a fielding error for a 4-2 advantage. The Ragin’ Cajuns cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Blake Trahan scored on a groundout.

Matt Burgess added a home run in the top of the seventh to extend the Red Wolves’ lead to 5-3.

ASU added two runs in the top of the eighth for a 7-3 lead. Schrimpf scored on a wild pitch, and George’s bases-loaded walk scored White. Trosclair’s double in the bottom of the eighth pulled Louisiana-Lafayette within 7-4.

The Red Wolves made it 10-4 in the top of the ninth on singles by White and Brown.

Tyler Zuber (3-2) allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings for ASU. He struck out three and walked three.

Schrimpf’s two-run double in the fourth inning scored Collin Massanelli and Tanner Ring as the Red Wolves took a 2-1 lead, bt Louisiana-Lafayette tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning on Brian Mills’ home run.

Greg Davis’ sacrifice fly scored Dylan Butler, giving the Ragin’ Cajuns a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

UALR 2, APPALACHIAN ST. 1

Kyle Kirk hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as UALR (8-11, 5-4 Sun Belt) beat Appalachian State (7-19, 2-8) at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

Kirk’s single scored Jason Prevatt. Prevatt started the Trojans’ rally with a single and was sacrificed to second and third, respectively, by Ryan Scott and Tanner Rockwell.

The Trojans outhit the Mountaineers 4-3, with Prevatt picking up two of their hits.

Cameron Allen (3-1) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the victory. Jarrid Garcia started for the Trojans, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 6 in 51/3 innings.

Taylor Thurber (3-5) went all 8 2/3 innings for the Mountaineers, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. He struck out six.

Dillon Dobson homered in the top of the first inning to give Appalachian State a 1-0 lead. But UALR tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Rockwell hit a RBI single, scoring Prevatt.

Dobson had two of Appalachian State’s three hits.

SOUTHLAND

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 4, SAM HOUSTON STATE 3

Connor Gilmore allowed four hits in a complete-game effort to lift Central Arkansas (13-7, 7-3 Southland Conference) over Sam Houston State (13-15, 6-4) at Bear Stadium in Conway.

Gilmore gave up 3 runs, struck out 4 and walked 2 in 120 pitches.

Wesley Hoover’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning capped a threerun comeback for the Bears. Hayden Steele led the Bears offensively, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.

The Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Nate Ferrell doubled, Braxton Phillips was hit by a pitch, and both scored on Steele’s two-run double that tied the game at 3-3. Hoover followed with a RBI single to bring Steele home for UCA’s first lead of the game.

Sam Houston State took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Bryce Johnson singled to lead off the inning, went to third on Spence Rahm’s double and scored on Jake MacWilliam’s infield single. Rahm came home on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead and two batters later, Hayden Simerly drove in MacWilliam with a RBI single.

UCA got a run back in the bottom of the second when Braxton Phillips scored on a wild pitch by Bearkats starter Andrew Godail.

SWAC

NEW ORLEANS 11, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 1

Ryan Calloway and Preston Marsh drove in two runs each as New Orleans (9-16) handled Arkansas-Pine Bluff (10-11) in a nonconference game at Maestri Field in New Orleans.

Parker Jones led New Orleans with two hits. Jay Robinson, Sam Carriere and Matt Rykaczewski all had two hits for the Privateers, members of the Southland Conference.

The Privateers scored two runs in the second, three in the third, four in the sixth and one each in the seventh and eighth innings.

Rashad Tillman led UAPB with three hits.
