BEST BET Candy Dandy in the third

LONG SHOT Shimmy Tinjo in the fifth

FRIDAY’S RESULTS:

MEET:

*Educated guess

**Things to like

***Plenty to like

****Confident choice

1 Purse $29,000, 1 mile, 4-year-olds and up, starter allowance

**DAZZLING OKIE rallied to defeat a similar field of starter allowance rivals by five widening lengths, and an expected honest early pace will help set up his consistent late run. RUNS WITH BULLS was no match for the top selection over a muddy track, but he won his previous start and is another who will benefit from a contentious pace. KELLY ROCK has led past every pole in back-to-back victories, and he is capable of a three-peat if the pace is reasonable.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

6 Dazzling Okie;Vazquez;Richard;3-1

4 Runs With Bulls;Loveberry;Rini;6-1

8 Kelly Rock;Birzer;Chleborad;7-2

1a Lotto Cat;De La Cruz;Puhl;9-2

2 Purse $22,000, 1 1/16 miles, fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up, claiming $7,500

**BOX OFFICE APPEAL had her modest two-race winning streak snapped when racing evenly over a sloppy track, but she figures to get a fast track and should rebound at this lower claiming price. WITH EXCELLENCE raced poorly in a one-race experiment in blinkers, but the hood comes off today and the beaten post-time favorite is making her first start for winning trainer Brad Cox. ALL ABOUT BROWNIE appears to be heading in the right direction, and a return to the form she showed at Remington will put her close at the finish.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

6 Box Office Appeal;Berry;Loetscher;7-2

2 With Excellence;Castanon;Cox;5-1

3 All About Brownie;De La Cruz;Puhl;4-1

7 Afleet Abaco;Hamilton;Broberg;6-1

3 Purse $21,000, 6 furlongs, 3-year-olds and up which have never won two races, claiming $10,000

****CANDY DANDY was beaten only a neck in his return from a 10-month layoff, and he is the speed and class of the field and wins with any kind of improvement. GEEZE WALLY was compromised by a wide trip in a close second-place finish, and he was claimed by a high percentage stable who quickly add blinkers. DEHAVEN crossed the wire only one position behind the top selection, and he may be able to reel them in late if the pace is fast enough.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

4 Candy Dandy;Santana;Asmussen;5-2

6 Geeze Wally;LQuinonez;Sharp;9-2

5 Dehaven;Court;Morse;7-2

9 Runaway Bling;Corbett;Durham;12-1

4 Purse $30,000, 6 furlongs, 3-year-olds and up which have never won three races, claiming $25,000

***WALT finished second in the 2014 Smarty Jones, and he is taking a big drop in price following two second-place finishes for trainer Chris Hartman, who has been on fire of late. MAHALO ARTURO is moving up a claiming condition following a determined front-running victory, and a similar effort for new connections will make him a major threat. JAMISONSJESTER is taking a slight class jump after a fast-closing second-place finish, and he was also claimed by a trainer with a high win percentage with his purchases.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

4 Walt;Berry;Hartman;5-2

1 Mahalo Arturo;Corbett;Von Hemel;7-2

2 Jamisonsjester;Vazquez;Villafranco;9-2

5 Golden Moon;Rocco;Sharp;12-1

3 Turn Up the Lights;Borel;Morse;10-1

5 Purse $27,000, 6 furlongs, 4-year-olds and up, starter allowance

**SHIMMY TINJO finished second in a recent race that has already produced two next-out winners, and he has the back class to move up and contend for new trainer Joe Sharp. STORM DEVIL clearly defeated $10,000 claimers, and the consistent gelding was claimed by hot connections. SPRINGANDAPRAYER earned the field’s fastest Beyer figure in a photo finish loss on a wet track, and the in-form sprinter is an overlay for low profile connections.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

7 Shimmy Tinjo;Rocco;Sharp;4-1

2 Storm Devil;Santana;Hartman;3-1

3 Springandaprayer;Wethey;Frazee;15-1

5 Bank Account;Loveberry;Caldwell;8-1

6 Purse $35,000, 1 1/16 miles, 4-year-olds and up, claiming $32,000

***MAL GUAPO has won two in a row and three of his past five races, and he has once again drawn into a field he can beat to the lead, and he has new and winning connections. DONOHARM was graded stakes-placed last summer at Lone Star, and the three-time winner at Oaklawn is taking a significant drop in class. STACHYS has earned better than $600k in his career, and he is dropping in class for top connections and scratched Thursday for this spot.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

8 Mal Guapo;Bridgmohan;Hartman;5-2

2 Donoharm;Berry;Calhoun;3-1

9 Stachys;Vazquez;Villafranco;5-1

6 Awol Adam;De La Cruz;Puhl;20-1

7 Purse $69,000, 1 mile, fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, allowance

**GHOST LOCKET has finished second in three of four attempts at this condition, and she has a talent advantage and should break through. TAP TWENTY ONE is moving up an allowance condition following a clear victory at Churchill Downs, and she drew an inside post and has been moved to a winning barn. DUCASA possesses sprinters speed and has earned the fastest Beyer speed figure, but she is trying to carry her speed around two turns for the first time.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

4 Ghost Locket;Laviolette;Von Hemel;2-1

1 Tap Twenty One;Castanon;Gorder;4-1

6 Ducasa;Santana;Asmussen;5-2

2 Cowgirl in Love;Loveberry;Milligan;15-1

8 Purse $66,000, 6 furlongs, 3-year-olds and up, maiden special weight

***G G’S SECONDCHANCE broke a tad slow and was not asked for any speed early before making up good ground through the stretch in a third-place debut, and he figures to improve with a better start and with the experience. ZIPPZAPZAPPER has been close to the pace and finished competitively in a three-race career, and he has earned the fastest Beyer speed figures and is a logical contender. SAILTHEHIGHSEAS has a series of encouraging workouts leading up to his career debut, and winning trainer Brad Cox has his “go-to” rider aboard.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

1 G G’s Secondchance;Canchari;Robertson;7-2

2 Calhoun;Rocco;Sims;20-1

9 The Rainbow Miss. Purse $75,000, 6 furlongs, fillies, 3-year-olds bred in Arkansas

****EASTER INDY pressed the pace in a competitive stakes showing against older rivals, and she figures difficult to defeat in her own division. JEAN’S BEAUTY rallied to second behind a post-time favorite in a good allowance tune-up, and the improving filly is the primary threat. BE MY CAROLINE proved stubborn on the lead in a maiden allowance victory, and she is lightly raced and capable of showing more.

PP HORSE;JOCKEY;TRAINER;ODDS

2 Easter Indy;De La Cruz;Martin;9-5

8 Jean’s Beauty;Canchari;Robertson;5-2

7 Jersey;Manrrique;White;20-1

10 Purse $68,500, 6 furlongs, fillies, 3-year-olds, allowance

****CHANTELINE ran a fast half-mile and held his rivals at bay in a sharp maiden victory at Fair Grounds, and she is likely to repeat if she can hold her form at a new venue. I’M WORKING ON IT splashed her way to victory in a promising career debut victory, and the inexpensive Indiana-bred may be this good. SIOUX APPEAL was unbeaten in two races as a juvenile filly at Canterbury, and trainer Mac Robertson is getting hot after a very slow start.

Exotic wager possiblities

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette handicapper Rick Lee seeks out horses which make good “key” horses in multi-horse and/or multi-race wagers, commonly called exotic wagers.

The 50-cent Pick 3 starting in Race 3 may begin with a “single” in Candy Dandy, and the second leg of the wager can be narrowed down to three in my opinion, and the final leg is one to spread out and hopefully catch a bomb. The late double may be had with a reasonable amount wagered as the ninth race appears a two-filly race, and Race 10 may also come down to two.
