JOHNNY RICE

North Little Rock

There was plenty of turmoil for North Little Rock this season, but Coach Johnny Rice helped guide the Charging Wildcats to another title. North Little Rock finished 25-5 and rallied from a four-point deficit in the championship game against Bentonville to claim the Class 7A crown. The Charging Wildcats vacated their 2014 title midway through the 2015 season, but responded by earning a No. 1 seed from the 7A-East Conference, winning at Springdale Har-Ber in the quarterfinals and beating Fayetteville in the semifinals.

MARK UPSHAW

Hot Springs

Hot Springs Coach Mark Upshaw led the Lady Trojans to a 26-4 record and the Class 5A state championship. It was the Lady Trojans’ first state title since 1998 and the first for Upshaw. Hot Springs went 14-0 on its way to the 5A-South Conference championship, finishing the season on an 18-game winning streak, which was capped by a 52-51 overtime victory over Pulaski Academy in the state title game.
