TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE

Designing Women Ministries has rousing prayer breakfast

In Exodus 3 of the Old Testament, Moses asked God whom he should name as the one who sent him to get the children of Israel out of Egypt. God's reply: "I am that I am."

This reply was chosen as the theme of the Designing Women Ministries' 10th annual Prayer Breakfast, held March 21 in the Wally Allen Ballroom of the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. This year's event honored not only "leading ladies in the body of Christ" but leading men too.

As was the case the year before, the packed program stretched from breakfast to midday. It got off to a rousing start thanks to worship leader Brenda Henton-Price, then Malessia Poe, who followed up with a prayer. The praise team of Antioch Full Gospel Baptist Church kept the spirit flowing.

Angela Armstrong awarded the 2015 scholarship -- renamed the Phillip L. Austin scholarship in honor of the late husband of Designing Women Ministries founder Cynthia Austin -- to Kevyanna Rawls, a senior at Little Rock Central High School.

Guests were also treated to the dance ministry of the Awareness Center International Diversity Institute and a song, "I Can Only Imagine," by singer Nicky Parrish, before introduction of the honorees: Bishop Kenneth L. Robinson Sr., co-pastor Linda White, pastor Charles Caradine, evangelist Angie M. Gatlin, pastor Stephen Robinson and apostle L.E. Braggs.
