Pulaski County jail deputy arrested on drug charges

A Pulaski County jail deputy was arrested Saturday after his backpack containing prohibited items was found while he was on duty, officials say.

The arrest came after Demon Tate’s backpack was found to contain items including a pill box with 22 pills, numerous plastic baggies, a spray bottle labeled “blunt effects” and an unlabeled water bottle with a yellow liquid believed to be an unauthorized cleaning chemical, according to a Pulaski County sheriff's office arrest report.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said Tate, 37, has worked for the jail since April 18, 2011.

Tate was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and three counts of furnishing prohibited articles. He’s being held in the Pulaski County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
