One killed on U.S. 71 in 3-vehicle crash

A man was killed Sunday when a tractor-trailer crossed the centerline and struck his vehicle, Arkansas State Police reported.

According to a preliminary accident report, the wreck occurred about 4:15 p.m. on U.S. 71 near Wickes in Polk County.

Joe M. Johnson III, 43, of Cove was driving a 1989 Dodge pickup north when a southbound 2002 Peterbilt TTL truck hit the pickup, as well as a northbound 2005 Dodge pickup.

The report states Johnson was "killed on impact" and pronounced dead at the scene.

Alvin James Lee of Stillwater, Okla., was driving the tractor-trailer. He and the driver of the other Dodge pickup -- Joshua Ryan Field of Texarkana, Texas -- were not injured.

According to the report, conditions were clear and roads were dry at the time of the accident.
