GAC announces players of the week

Henderson State first baseman Hunder Mayall and Arkansas-Monticello pitcher Austin Braddock were recognized by the Great American Conference as player and pitcher of the week Monday.

Mayall was named player of the week after leading the Reddies to a sweep over Southwestern Oklahoma State. He hit .700 in the series, reaching bases 11 times in 16 plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Braddock defeated Ouachita Baptist by striking out a career-high 10 batters March 23. On Saturday, he threw a complete game, allowing 5 hits in an 8-1 victory against Arkansas Tech.

UAFS pitcher honored by Heartland Conference

Arkansas-Fort Smith pitcher Devin Hampton was named Heartland Conference pitcher of the week Monday.

Hampton pitched a four-hit, complete-game shutout in the Lions’ 7-0 victory over Rogers State on Friday at Crowder Field in Fort Smith.

UALR second at Chenal

UALR’s men trail Tulsa by two strokes after Monday’s first two rounds of the UALR/First Tee Classic at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock.

The Trojans shot a 577 (292-285) entering today’s final round, while Tulsa shot a 575 (285-290). Central Arkansas is in 12th place with a 596 (300-296).

UALR’s Johann Voss is tied for fourth with a 3-under-par 141, while Tyler Reynolds is tied for ninth with a 1-under 143. Central Arkansas’ Pep Angles is tied for sixth with a 2-under 142.. Tulsa’s Colton Staggs leads with a 6-under par 138.

UCA lead UALR/ASU Classic

Central Arkansas leads the UALR/ASU Women’s Golf Classic at Maumelle Country Club after Monday’s opening two rounds.

The Sugar Bears shot a 598 (296-302) and leads Oral Roberts 603 (302-301) by five strokes. UALR is third at 605 (303-302) while Arkansas State is fourth at 608 (300-308). Arkansas State’s “B” team is 15th at 665.

Central Arkansas’ Fernanda Lira leads with a 146 (74-72), while teammate Brenda Gonzalez (72-76) is tied with Oral Roberts’ Kennedy Ishee (73-75) for second place at 148. Malin Senneryd of Central Arkansas is eighth at 151 (73-78).

Hannah Ward is UALR’s top golfer in seventh place with a 149 (74-75) . Sabrina Bonanno is tied for eighth at 151 (74-77).

Arkansas State’ s Megan Garland is also tied for eighth at 151 (75-76).

Arkansas Tech second in Florida

Arkansas Tech’s men shot a 291 and trail first-round leader North Alabama by two strokes after Monday’s first round of the Argonaut Invitational at Pensacola, Fla.

Jason Purdy led the Wonder Boys with a 2-under-par 70 and is in third place. Julio Arguelles finished with a 72 and is tied for eighth. Alex Marhlik is in 11th with a 73.
