Sex offender faces no-register charge

ALTHEIMER -- Jefferson County authorities have arrested a 67-year-old Altheimer man over accusations he failed to register as a sex offender for more than a decade.

According to the Jefferson County sheriff's office, Roy Lee Thomas was arrested at his home Monday morning after an internal audit conducted by the sheriff's office indicated that he had not registered in 11 years and was not compliant with the order of the court.

Thomas was ordered to register as a level 3 sex offender after a 2000 conviction of soliciting sex from a 10-year-old girl, according to the sheriff's office. Thomas also was ordered to complete 120 hours of community service, a 72-month probationary period and fines totaling $6,540.

He is being held at the W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond.
