UT-ARLINGTON 12, UALR 0

Texas-Arlington roughed up three UALR pitchers Friday as the Mavericks shut out the Trojans in the opening game of their three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.

Travis Sibley, Eric Tate and Brady Cox combined for nine of Texas-Arlington’s 18 hits and five runs. Sibley and Cox were both 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, while Tate was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Matt McLean was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and 1 run as the Mavericks (18-26, 9-13) finished 11 for 24 with runners on base.

Starter Jarrid Garcia (2-2) took the loss for UALR (14-26, 10-11), giving up 6 runs — all earned — on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts and 5 walks.

Stephen Chandler came on in relief in the fifth inning but didn’t fare any better, giving up 6 runs — all earned — on 9 hits in just 2 1/3 innings. Brent Fare finished up for UALR, giving up two hits over 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Chad Nack (4-4) earned the victory, giving up all nine of UALR’s hits over seven innings. He struck out three and didn’t allow a walk. Nick Whidby didn’t allow a run or a hit over the final two innings. Texas Arlington scored the only run it needed in the bottom of the first inning when Sibley hit a home run to left field for a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks extended the lead to 3-0 in the second when Tate scored on a wild pitch and Sibley drove in another with a single to right field. Cox’s two-run double the third inning pushed the Mavericks’ lead to 5-0.

Tate’s run-scoring single in the fifth gave Texas-Arlington a 6-0 lead, and RBI singles by RJ Williams and McLean pushed the lead to 8-0 going into the sixth inning.

Texas-Arlington closed out its scoring with four runs in the seventh on Mc-Lean’s two-run triple to right field Levi Scott’s sacrifice fly and Cody Farrell’s single to center field.

ARKANSAS STATE 11, KANSAS STATE 6

Levy Stuart drove in three runs and three other Red Wolves hit home runs as Arkansas State (19-24) defeated Kansas State (21-24) in the opening game of a three-game nonconference series at Tointon Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. Stuart went 3 for 4 to lead the Red Wolves’ 15-hit attack. Austin Baker was 3 for 5 with 1 home run and scored 3 runs. Tanner Ring was 3 for 5 with 1 home run, driving in 2 runs and scoring twice, while Joe Schrimpf was 2 for 3 with 1 home run, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Colton Kibler (3-3) earned the victory in relief of starter Davis Owen. Kibler gave up 3 runs — all earned — on 2 hits and 3 walks in 1 inning after Owen allowed just 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings.

Corey Fischer (4-4), the third Kansas State pitcher, took the loss after giving up four earned runs on three hits in twothirds of an inning.

SOUTHLAND

INCARNATE WORD 5, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 4

Incarnate Word (16-27, 7-15) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday to beat Central Arkansas (23-16, 13-9) in their Southland Conference series opener at Sullivan Field in San Antonio.

The Cardinals put together three consecutive infield singles, including two bunts, before shortstop Austin Hoffman doubled down the left-field line to bring in the tying and winning runs. Incarnate Word outhit UCA 13-7 to break UCA’s four-game winning streak.

The Bears scored three runs to take the lead in the eighth inning. Tyler Langley and Wesley Hoover had consecutive one-out base hits and Matt Anderson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Catcher Travis Hull drew a walk to score pinch-runner Nick Rougeau, and Brad Dillenberger’s single to center field scored two more for a 4-3 lead.

UCA took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on Dillenberger’s sacrifice fly that scored Hoover, who led off with a double. Hoover finished 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored, while Langley was 2 for 4 and Dillenberger went 1 for 3 with 3 RBI. UCA junior reliever Bo Stitch took the loss, allowing four hits and two earned runs. Connor Gilmore worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs, but didn’t figure into the decision.

Trevor Hardee (3-1) won in relief for the Cardinals, striking out four in 1 2/3 innings.
