The faded glory of the Dreamland Ballroom in Little Rock's historic Ninth Street district. A bit of a '70s vibe, with decorations complete with colorful fringe curtains and clear bubble chairs. Guests, decked out in attire accented with fringe, which happens to be a spring 2015 fashion trend.
These were the standout features of Fringe: IV Party on the Edge, the April 25 fundraiser for CHI St. Vincent. It was worth the long trip up a few flights of stairs -- old building equals no elevator -- for this shindig, described as St. Vincent's "take on the urban trend of a 'pop-up party.'" Attendees -- not exactly those on the "edges" or "fringes" of society -- were also promised they would be spared any presentations, auctions and raffle-ticket hawking.
Kristi Crum chaired the event, which was presented by Linda and Rush Harding. Organizers delivered only good, plain fun. Guests first gathered for the early evening benefactor event, a preview party offering specialty cocktails and assorted hors d'oeuvres and mini-dishes (including Frito chili pie!) by Cache Restaurant. The main event began 90 minutes later. Attendees got to see larger-than-life photos of themselves displayed on the dance floor -- a floor they later put to full use thanks to the mix-master skills of celebrated DJ Dojah of San Francisco.
The IV party benefits the CHI St. Vincent Patient Simulation Lab and nursing scholarships.
