Baby's body found in Louisiana apartment complex trash compactor

SLIDELL, La. — Police in Slidell say the body of a baby was found in a trash compactor at an apartment complex.

A police department news release said the body was found by a maintenance worker Monday morning. Police were working with the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death and age of the baby.

Police did not say whether the baby was a boy or a girl and said they would release no other details until later Monday or Tuesday.

The body was found at the Canterbury House Apartments in Slidell, which is northeast of New Orleans on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.
