Supercomputer transferred to UA

FAYETTEVILLE — A new supercomputer is set to more than double the computational capacity of a University of Arkansas computing center.

The university announced Monday that the National Science Foundation and the San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California, San Diego, have given the machine. The computer cluster known as "Trestles" will be housed at the Arkansas High Performance Computing Center.

The center supports research for about 260 users across about 30 academic areas such as bioinformatics, physics and integrated nanoscience.

The university will decommission its supercomputer known as the Star of Arkansas to make room for Trestles.
