The Gala of the Royal Horses' inaugural North American equestrian tour, featuring the Andalusian, Friesian, Lipizzaner and Arabian breeds in the style of famous riding schools in Vienna and Spain, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 800 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith. The performance also features Spanish flamenco dancers and guitarists in authentic costumes.

A performance scheduled for Saturday at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock has been canceled.

River recollections

Chris Engholm will discuss his two years of travels in a cedar-strip canoe along the White River, including stories from residents on the river's banks, at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies' May "Legacies & Lunch," noon-1 p.m. Wednesday in the Darragh Center, Central Arkansas Library System Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock.

The work of 25 artists whose creations Engholm collected are on display in an exhibition titled "White River Memoirs," through July 25 in the Butler Center Galleries, 401 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.

The Arkansas Humanities Council is a co-sponsor. Admission is free; bring a sack lunch and the Butler Center will provide drinks and dessert. Call (501) 918-3033.

Film riffs

RiffTrax LIVE -- Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett riffing on cheesy movies -- will screen The Room at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Breckenridge Village 12 in Little Rock, the Tinseltown in Benton and the Conway Towne Center/Cypress Point in Conway. The Breckenridge Village 12 will also show the film May 12.

Subsequent films in the RiffTrax LIVE series: Sharknado 2: The Second One, July 9 and 16; Miami Connection, Oct. 1 and 6; and Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny, Dec. 3 and 15.
