NLR to hire new head football coach

North Little Rock will hire Starkville, Miss. Coach Jamie Mitchell as its new football coach, Superintendent Kelly Rodgers told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Tuesday afternoon.

Mitchell, 48, has coached at Starkville for five seasons (2010-2014) and led the school to a Class 5A state championship in Mississippi in 2012. He went 52-17 at Starkville. Before going to Starkville, Mitchell also coached at Olive Branch, Itawamba Agricultural, Charleston and Ripley High Schools, all in Mississippi.

North Little Rock fired Brad Bolding last month after eight seasons for violating district purchasing procedures.

Athletic Director Gary Davis met with the school's football assistant coaches and players to discuss Mitchell's hiring. Mitchell is expected to be approved as the new Charging Wildcats coach at a special school board meeting Thursday.
