Tenpenny going to UNLV

Altee Tenpenny, the former North Little Rock High School running back who played at Alabama the past two seasons, is transferring to UNLV, according to AL.com.

Tenpenny announced after last season he was leaving Alabama, but hadn’t specified a transfer destination until Monday. He made his announcement on his Instagram account, AL.com reported.

Tenpenny, who will have two seasons of eligibility at UNLV after redshirting the 2015 season, played primarily on specials teams for Alabama. He rushed 26 times for 136 yards last season and had 22 carries for 82 yards as a freshman.

Razorbacks seeded 5th at NCAA Regional

Arkansas men’s golf team earned its eighth consecutive NCAA Regional bid Monday as the Razorbacks were seeded No. 5 in the New Haven Regional hosted by Yale.

NCAA Regionals will be played May 14-16 with the top five teams at each of six regionals advancing to the NCAA championships on May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.

The Razorbacks are paired with Vanderbilt and SEC champion LSU, the top two seeds at the regional, as well as No. 3 seed South Florida and No. 4 seed Oklahoma State. The other teams at the regional, in order of rankings, are San Diego State, Iowa, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Troy, North Texas, College of Charleston, Robert Morris and Saint Peter’s. The regional will be played at The Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn.

“I’m real excited about our site,” Arkansas Coach Brad McMakin said. “We’ve had a great semester and I’m looking forward to the guys carrying that momentum into the postseason.”

The Razorbacks are coming off a sixth-place finish at the SEC Championships on April 23 at Sea Island, Ga. Arkansas played all three rounds at the conference tournament at par or better to card a program-record 6-under total score.

Junior Taylor Moore led the Razorbacks with a final-round 67 to tie for sixth place at 4-under par. Junior Kolton Crawford tied for 17th at 1-under and sophomore Zach Coates tied for 23rd at 1-over. Freshman Alvaro Ortiz tied for 36th at 3-over and junior Nicolas Echavaria was tied for 53rd at 9-over.

The Razorbacks have qualified for an NCAA regional in eight of nine seasons under McMakin and have advanced to the NCAA Championships in four of the past six years, including a runner-up finish in 2009.

Arkansas Tech 10th, Henderson State 19th in regional

Arkansas Tech and Henderson State’s men are in 10th and 19th place after Monday’s first round at the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional at Lemont, Ill.

The Wonder Boys shot a 300 and Reddies shot a 309 on Monday. Southeastern Oklahoma State leads with a 288. The top five teams in the regional advance to the national championships.

Brian Belz led the Wonder Boys with a 1-over-par 73. Brice Howard and Mauricio Laira each shot a 75 to lead the Reddies.

The tournament resumes today with the second of three rounds.

Arkansas Tech women fourth in super regional

Arkansas Tech’s women are fourth after two rounds of the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 at Bartlesville, Okla.

The Golden Suns shot a 641 (332-309) and trail Northeastern (Okla.) State by two strokes. The top three teams advance to the national championships.

Augustana College leads with a 630 (316-314) and holds a seven-stroke advantage over Central Oklahoma.

Arkansas Tech’s Rebecka Surtervall shot a second-round 74 and is tied for third with a 9-over-par 153. Sierra Langile of Augustana and Marla Souvannasing of Central Oklahoma are tied for the lead at 151.

BASEBALL

SAU eliminates OBU at GAC Tournament

Southern Arkansas defeated Ouachita Baptist 4-2 on Monday at the Great American Conference Tournament in Enid, Okla., eliminating the Tigers.

The Muleriders (37-16) took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Carver Rademacher was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on Byron Reichstein’s single and scored on a fielding error. Reichstein also scored on a wild pitch.

After Ouachita Baptist (37-16) tied it in the fifth on a home run by Jace Melby, the Muleriders took a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Billy Germaine doubled to right to score Korey Keith. In the seventh, Jon Phillips singled to score Chris Quinn.

Yumezo Densaki (6-1) picked up the victory for SAU, allowing 2 runs in 8 1/3 innings. John Franklin Matros (4-4) took the loss, allowing 4 runs — 2 earned — on 6 hits in 7 1/3 innings.

In other action, Southeastern Oklahoma State advanced with a 4-3 victory over Harding when Brayon Coley hit a sacrifice fly to score the game-winning run.

Harding (27-25) was eliminated, while Southeastern Oklahoma State (19-24) will meet either Southern Arkansas or Henderson State today.
