USA Truck posts $1.1 million profit in first quarter

Van Buren-based USA Truck on Tuesday announced a first-quarter profit of $1.1 million, up from a $1.6 million loss in the first quarter of 2014.

Total base revenue decreased to $115.5 million for the quarter, down 1.8 percent from $117.6 million in the same quarter of 2014, the trucker said. Consolidated net income came to $1.1 million, or 11 cents per diluted share, an improvement over a net loss of $1.6 million, or 15 cents per diluted share, for the same period of 2014.

“USA Truck is off to a solid start in 2015, generating earnings per diluted share of $0.11 and a 33% increase in EBITDA year over year,” Interim Chief Operating Officer Thomas Glaser said, referring to net income, plus interest expense net of interest income, provision for income taxes, and depreciation and amortization. “We extended our track record to 10 consecutive quarters of year-over-year financial improvement turned in a profitable first quarter for the first time since 2007.”
