Festival notes

• During the 9:30 a.m. news conference Geena Davis, co-founder of the Bentonville Film Festival, quietly took a photo of two women who wore Thelma & Louise T-shirts. Davis played Thelma in the 1991 movie where Thelma, a housewife, and Louise, a waitress, break out of their normal lives and hit the road in a 1966 Ford Thunderbird.

• Filmmaker Kai Robert attended a few panels Tuesday. His film, Eureka! The Art of Being isn't showing in the festival. It will, however, be shown at 7 p.m. May 27 at Crystal Bridges. The film, which documents the art scene in Eureka Springs, has been shown in six regional film festivals.

• There were no significant traffic issues Tuesday, according to officials at the emergency command center. Officials expect the city to become more busy as the weekend approaches. On Tuesday afternoon, less than a dozen cars were parked in the official festival shuttle lot on South Walton Boulevard at the former Nunnally dealership just south of the Walmart's home office.

• Temperatures were in the mid to high 70s the festival's opening day. There were a couple scattered showers during the day.

• Arkansas native Joey Lauren Adams enjoyed lunch at Table Mesa Bistro on the Bentonville square. The actress, known for her work in films such as Mallrats and Chasing Amy, posed for several photos with fans.

• Official festival merchandise can be found at the main box office, located in the former Benton County Daily Record building just southwest of the square.

• Kiernan Shipka, the now 15-year-old actress known for her portrayal of Sally Draper in the popular Mad Men television series, attended the screening of Fan Girl at White Auditorium on the Northwest Arkansas Community College campus. In the film, Shipka plays the title character.
