Gurdon knocks off Junction City in 2A

GURDON — Junction City saw its two-year reign as the Class 2A track and field boys state champion come to an end Wednesday night as Gurdon rallied in the final event to win the title

Gurdon finished with 97 points to edge Junction City, which scored 93 points.

Des Arc won the girls championship, with Magnet Cove finishing second.

The Go-Devils trailed Junction City going into the final event but made up the difference against the Dragons, who failed to qualify for the 1,600 relay.

Gurdon was led by Jackie Harvell, who won state titles in the 100 meters (11.0 seconds) and the 200 meters (44.18). He also was part of the Go-Devils’ 400 relay championship team (44.18) with Damontra Quarrles, DeWayne Marlow and Naja Hawthorne.

Junction City’s Jamario Bell won individual titles in the shot and the discus. Josh Armstrong won the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.
