Polls open for Pulaski County school millage election

Voters can now cast their ballots in a special election on a proposed property tax increase that would fund facilities in the Pulaski County Special School District.

Polls opened at 7:30 a.m. and will remain open until 7:30 p.m. in the special election, in which voters will be asked to approve or reject raising the school-tax rate from 40.7 mills to 46.3 mills.

The increase would fund the district's facilities plan, which includes relocating a pair of middle schools and building two new high schools and two new elementary schools, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.

If it passes, the increase would raise the annual tax payment for the owner of a $100,000 home by an additional $112 a year.
