Alma mater misses don't sack Rodgers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was the winner on an episode of Celebrity Jeopardy this week, despite not giving the correct response on a couple of questions about Cal-Berkeley, his alma mater.

Aaron Rodgers added another line to his already impressive resume, winning Tuesday's episode of Celebrity Jeopardy. The Green Bay Packers quarterback beat Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary and astronaut Mark Kelly using responses that ranged from Alexander the Great to Bruce Springsteen lyrics.

Rodgers final score was $8,399, which won $50,000 for his chosen charity, Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer. O'Leary and Kelly both won $10,000 for their charities.

Though Rodgers proved to be quick with the buzzer, his victory didn't come easy. He missed a few clues in a category involving his alma mater, Cal-Berkeley, and then also guessed incorrectly on Final Jeopardy.

Nevertheless, Rodgers has had a run of success these past few years counting one Super Bowl title, two MVPs and coming in first place on a popular quiz show.

Tom Shady?

Tom Brady isn't thrilled with his punishment for his role in the Deflategate scandal, but merchandise retailers are laughing all the way to the bank.

According to data from Fanatics, the largest retailer of officially licensed sports merchandise, jersey sales for the Patriots quarterback have spiked 100 percent since his four-game suspension was announced Monday.

"Our sense is fans are rallying behind Brady and the Patriots and supporting them," said Jack Boyle, president of merchandising for Fanatics, according to CNBC.

Since the Wells Report was released May 6, Brady has been the NFL's third-best-selling jersey on the site after top draft picks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. Brady ranked sixth in jersey sales prior to the release of the Wells Report.

"We generally do not see an overall lift in sales if the news with a team is not favorable," Boyle added.

Brady isn't the only one who saw a surge in sales. The Patriots are the second highest-selling NFL team on the site after the Dallas Cowboys.

Hey, Buddy

Even after his nine years of MLB service, it's a safe bet most baseball fans have never heard of Buddy Carlyle. That's too bad because it turns out the New York Mets reliever is perhaps one of the most generous players in the league when it comes to interacting with fans.

It's not hard to find YouTube videos of Carlyle playing catch with young fans before games on the road. The Wall Street Journal noticed the trend, and tried to talk to Carlyle about it, but he mostly downplayed the gesture, opting to avoid the attention.

"I'm just sorry I'm not somebody cooler," Carlyle said.

Be like Mike

Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer recently received a commitment from a Michigan prep player named Michael Jordan.

"He plays offensive tackle," wrote Reggie Hayes, a columnist with The News-Sentinel of Fort Wayne, Ind., "but he believes he can fly."
