Much of Arkansas could see heavy thunderstorms for the remainder of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect rain to gradually diminish midday Sunday and redevelop in the afternoon, becoming more widespread and heavy in the evening, science and operations officer with the agency’s North Little Rock office Chris Buonanno said in an email.

Tonight's thunderstorms could bring damaging straight-line winds and quarter-size hail, Buonanno said.

Heavy rain through Monday will bring the possibility of flash flooding, he said, and a flash flood watch is in effect for a large part of the state.
