TASTE OF THE ROCK

Gazpacho and duck salad for the win, foodies decide

Just a taste? Just a taste of the Rock? No, ma'am -- fill up this cardboard tray! That was the winning strategy at the annual Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce's party for the un-picky peckish.

Nearly three dozen restaurants, caterers and confectioners set up shop temporarily beneath the two River Market pavilions and unloaded broiled beef and tart sweets. Kendra Boyle of Mickey's Cakes & Sweets gave out more than 2,000 mini cupcakes, says the Inside Man (Graham Cobb at the chamber).

The crowd crowned 1620 Savoy and its green gazpacho with smoked duck Caesar salad emperor (Emperor Caesar?). Two Sisters Catering took the two spot with its beef brisket with grits & greens (the chocolate cake and chocolate fountain with strawberries to dip tipped the scales for a first-place finish in Best Booth). On the bronze podium it was @ the corner's shrimp and grits.

This was "not festival food," Cobb declared. "Everyone brought their A game and did what they do best."

Taste of the Rock is sponsored by Choctaw Casino Hotel, a chamber member, and more than 1,000 turned out for it.
