Bryant ousts champs

Caroline Campbell’s score in the 37th minute of the second half snapped a 1-1 tie and gave Bryant the lead for good as the Lady Hornets knocked off defending state champion Bentonville 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Class 7A girls soccer state tournament at Hornet Stadium

Campbell’s score was Bryant’s only shot on goal in the second half.

6A BASEBALL

Allen huge for Sheridan

Tyler Allen might have been bothered by Saturday’s rain, but he had no trouble with the Hurricane.

Sheridan’s senior ace limited the Jonesboro Hurricane to five base runners while his Yellowjacket teammates broke through for 14 hits on their way to a 13-1 victory in the Class 6A semifinals at Razorback Field in Texarkana.

Siloam Springs rallies

Siloam Springs girls soccer Coach Chuck Jones thought his team was capable of scoring in bunches all season. It just didn’t happen all that often.

The defending Class 6A state champions picked a good time to break out Saturday morning.

After Mountain Home scored two goals in the span of 12 minutes to take a lead in the second half of the Class 6A state tournament, Siloam Springs scored five goals in the final 15:17 for a 5-2 comeback victory.

5A BASEBALL

Harrison gritty in victory

Harrison turned in its most impressive performance so far in the Class 5A baseball state tournament, defeating Magnolia 11-1 in five innings Saturday to advance to the state title game.

The Goblins (21-6) pounded out nine hits off three Magnolia pitchers and ended the game with two home runs and will face White Hall for the state title next Saturday.
