Pavement tests to shut U.S. 82 lanes

Pavement testing on a section of U.S. 82 in Ashley County south of Hamburg will require lane closuresThursday and possibly Friday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

The tests will be performed on an area extending from the Hamburg city limits south to the junction of U.S. 82 and U.S. 425, reducing traffic to one lane during the day, alternately closing the northbound and southbound lanes and shoulders.

The testing will take place during daylight hours Thursday, weather permitting, the department said. If the testing isn't completed, it will continue Friday.

The work is part of the proposed projects to widen U.S. 82 and U.S. 425 to four lanes between Hamburg and the Louisiana state line, which is part of the agency's $1.8 billion Connecting Arkansas Program. More information on this project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
