Little Rock-based acoustic guitarist Vicki Genfan will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at The Joint, 301 Main St., in North Little Rock’s Argenta Arts District. New release party

Butler Center Books, the publishing division of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, will host a new release party for They’ll Do to Tie To! The Story of Hood’s Arkansas Toothpicks by Maj. Calvin L. Collier, with a preface by Mark K. Christ; Arky: The Saga of the USS Arkansas by Ray Hanley and Steven Hanley; and To Can the Kaiser: Arkansas and the Great War, edited by Guy Lancaster and Michael D. Polston, at 6 p.m. today in the Darragh Center, Central Arkansas Library System Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock. Sibelius celebration

Kiril Laskarov, co-concertmaster of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, solos in the first movement of Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto with the Saline County Community Orchestra and conductor Aaron Rice in a concert marking the 150th birth date of the Finnish composer, at 6 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Bryant, 518 N. Conductor named

The Little Rock Wind Symphony has named Israel Getzov, music director of the Conway Symphony and a faculty member at the University of Central Arkansas, as its third music director, replacing Karen Fannin. Getzov, one of three candidates who conducted Wind Symphony concerts in the 2014-15 season, will take over officially July 1.
