Wedding vows were exchanged by Catarina Gomes de Figueiredo and Alexander Carl Young at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, in Aberema 7, Jardim Guanabara, Ilha do Governador, Rio de Janeiro. The Rev. Jose Mathias of Assembleia de Deus Vitoria em Cristo officiated.

Parents of the bride are Zilmar Gomes Saraiva and Carlos Augusto Palhares de Figueiredo, both of Rio de Janeiro. Her grandparents are Maria and the late Osmar Saraiva and Joaquim Figueiredo and the late Aydil Palhares, all also of Rio de Janeiro.

On each side of the aisle were three colossal stands of cream, blush and pink-tinged roses. Music was by vocalist Gabriella Guimaraes.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white princess-style gown. Her cathedral-length veil, made by her mother, was secured with a jewel- and pearl-encrusted headband. She carried a sphere of white pearls and ribbons.

Rafaella Chaves of Rio de Janeiro was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Eliza Young and Julie Young of Little Rock, sisters of the groom. They wore gowns in shades of taupe, mocha and chocolate brown.

Gustavo Gomes Saraiva da Silva of Rio de Janeiro, cousin of the bride, served as best man. Groomsmen were Francisco Alberico Lima Farias and Francisco de Souza Almeida, uncles of the bride.

A reception, in the same venue, followed the ceremony. Guest tables were covered in cream-colored tablecloths with decorative mocha and animal-print details and centered with tall vases of cream- and blush-colored roses. Assisting were Larissa Ferreira, Rebecca Antunes, Gabriella Guimaraes, Tatiane Cassimiro and Thais Cassimiro.

The bride is a pre-medical honors student majoring in biology and chemistry at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, where she was accepted into the Patterson Physics Research program.

The groom graduated from OBU earlier this month. He majored in business and personal finance and served as the OBU portfolio manager for the Eddie and Phyllis Ary Investment Fund.

After a honeymoon in Brazil, the couple will make their home in Arkadelphia.
