Flash flood warning in effect in western Arkansas counties

A flash flood warning is in effect in seven western Arkansas counties as a large area of thunderstorms moves into the area.

The National Weather Service says that between 1 and 3 inches of rain fell over the region Sunday morning. Forecasters say as much as 3 more inches of rainfall is possible Sunday afternoon.

With the ground already saturated from recent rainfall, flash flooding is likely. While precipitation may taper off in some areas, it will take time for any high water to run off.

Forecasters say the warning will remain in effect until 9 p.m. in Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Franklin, Madison, Sebastian and Washington counties.
