Henderson State relief pitcher picks up national honor

ARKADELPHIA — A Henderson State University pitcher has become the first player in school history to earn All-American First-Team honors.

The university announced Monday that junior relief pitcher Nick Vanthillo has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American First-Team. The Belgium native has 13 saves this season and holds the university's single-season and career record for saves.

Vanthillo has allowed just one earned run in his last 24 innings of work and is the lone representative from the Great American Conference.

Vanthillo is only the second Henderson State player to earn ABCA All-American honors. Cody Deal was a third-team selection in 2005.
