Arkansas lawmakers convene for special session

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas lawmakers have begun a special legislative session focusing on an $87 million incentive package aimed at helping Lockheed Martin land a major defense contract.

The House and Senate convened Tuesday for the session, which is focusing on Gov. Asa Hutchinson's proposal to issue bonds that would go toward the company's Camden facility if it wins a contract to produce a new tactical vehicle that will replace the Humvee.

State officials have said if Lockheed wins the contract, the project will create nearly 600 new jobs in the state.

Other items on the session agenda include a renewed attempt to move up the state's primary and a change in the state's driving while intoxicated law that officials say is needed to avoid losing federal highway money.
