Officers examine grave-marker theft

Thefts of bronze military grave markers from cemeteries in Jackson County are being investigated by the sheriff's office, according to a Monday news release.

The markers are bronze with raised lettering and and a small cross at the bottom. Recyclers are currently buying brass at about $1.45 per pound, according to the U.S. Scrap Metal Prices register.

The grave markers weigh approximately 20 to 45 pounds, depending on the size.
