• During the strawberry season which is now closing Harry Churchill, one of the live wires of Pangburn, advertised Pangburn and vicinity in a pleasing manner. He had a number of paper baskets made, and into each one put several fine strawberries. A waiter carrying a tray filled with these baskets went through every passenger train that stopped at Pangburn and gave a basket of berries to each passenger.

• The Junior City Beautiful Commission asked the Little Rock School Board Tuesday to retain 5.3 acres at the north end of the Hall High School campus or to sell it to the city for use as a park. The Commission, meeting only for the second time since it was created recently by the City Beautiful Commission as an advisory body representing the 15 to 25 age group, also decided to ask the city manager and police chief to start strict enforcement of the anti-littering laws and to check the possibility of proposing new ordinances.

• After six months of negotiations marked by federal mediation and an impasse, Little Rock officials have signed a two-year contract with a union representing many of the city's blue-collar workers. In announcing the contract, City Manager Bruce Moore said he was pleased the city and members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 994 could come to an agreement. "When you start negotiations, you want this to be a win-win," Moore said. "This is a win-win." Under the agreement, the union has withdrawn a lawsuit which was filed against the city late last year. The lawsuit, filed in Pulaski County Circuit Court, argued that the city reneged on promised pay raises to its employees. The case was dismissed earlier this month by Judge Timothy Fox.
