Wrightsville man charged in shooting

Deputies are searching for a Wrightsville man who purportedly shot another man in the chest Monday night, authorities say.

Deputies responded to a shooting call in the 16500 block of Fourth Street in Wrightsville about 8:30 p.m., according to a Pulaski County sheriff's office report.

Steven Haygood, 56, was inside his residence holding a towel to his chest and told deputies he had been shot by Matthew McKee, 34, of Wrightsville, the report states.

Haygood said he asked McKee to leave his home earlier in the evening because McKee was intoxicated, deputies said.

A short time later, Haygood said McKee knocked on his front door, according to the report. When Haygood told McKee to leave his property, Haygood said McKee shot him through the front door, the report states.

Deputies found one shell casing that appeared to be from a 9mm handgun, according to the report. Haygood was transported to the UAMS Medical Center where he is in stable condition, Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said.

McKee has been charged with first-degree battery and is described as a 6-foot black man. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call the Pulaski County sheriff's office at (501) 340-6963.
