Kids’ Paint Night

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will host a Kids’ Paint Night from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Citizens Bank Annex Building. Ladies’ Meeting

ASH FLAT — The Ash Flat Library will host a Ladies’ Meeting at noon in the library meeting room. Chelsea Maguffee, the Sharp County extension family and consumer science agent, will be the guest speaker. Her presentation is titled Safe Food Handling. Storm Spotter Class

ASH FLAT — Ozarka College will host a free storm-spotting class at 10 a.m. The SKYWARN-certification class is offered by the Ash Flat Fire Department and the Little Rock National Weather Service Forecast office. Larry Nelson Family Performance

Golf Tournament

HORSESHOE BEND — The St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus and The Ladies Guild will hold a three-person-scramble golf tournament with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Coffee and pastries will be served at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $105 per team, and each team must submit an entry form. Unity Fest

BATESVILLE — The 10th annual Unity Fest will be held at 3 p.m. at Riverside Park. The festivities will include a live auction, food and prizes. Live entertainment will be provided by special guest Zach Williams and The Brothers of Grace, along with the John 3:16 praise and worship team. Tickets are $10 and include a catfish dinner and entry for prizes such as a Z28 Camaro Convertible, a Bad Boy mower and a big-screen HDTV. Entrants do not need to be present to win.

Big Hero 6

SEARCY — Disney’s Big Hero 6 will be this year’s Main Street Searcy and Southern Bank’s Movie in the Park. The free movie will be shown at dusk, approximately 9 p.m., in Spring Park and will include free soda and popcorn for attendees. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets with them. Powhatan Park Tours

POWHATAN — Powhatan Historic State Park will celebrate Arkansas Heritage Month in May by giving tours of the park, which will be conducted by demand throughout the day. May Artist Exhibit

ASH FLAT — The Ash Flat Library’s exhibit of the work of Miki Jurczyk will continue through May. Jurczyk was a china painter for 40 years. She recently turned 90 years old. The public is invited to view the art exhibit during library hours.

Knights of Columbus Meat Sale

Practical-Nursing Classes Application Deadline

BEEBE — The deadline to apply for practical-nursing classes for fall 2015 at Arkansas State University-Searcy, a technical campus of ASU-Beebe, has been extended to June 30, or until available seats are filled. Students may attend full-time day classes at the Searcy campus or part-time night and weekend classes at the Heber Springs campus. National Juried Exhibition

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will hold its third annual National Juried Exhibition through June 13 at the BAAC Gallery on Main, 226 E. Main St. The exhibition is made up of 26 pieces from 20 artists across the United States. The juror for the exhibition is Delita Martin.

Summer Reading Camp

BATESVILLE — Registration is open for Reading Is a Superpower! This 2015 Summer Reading Camp for 6- to 12-year-olds, a fundraiser for the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 15-18 at First United Methodist Church, 615 E. Main St. Activities will include story time, a superhero obstacle course, a readers theater, creative writing, recipe reading to make super snacks, word games and more. Second Time Around Bookstore New Hours

SEARCY — The Literacy Council of White County operates the Second Time Around Bookstore at 109 E. Center. Proceeds from the sale of donated books support the mission of helping adults in the community improve their literacy and English-language skills. The store and literacy office have new hours and are now open from 10 a.m. to

Charity Grill-Fest

SEARCY — Hamburgers for Homelessness will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 5 at Berryhill Park. The event raises money to benefit the Jacob’s Place Homeless Mission. Portfest Festival

NEWPORT — The 34th annual Portfest Festival, which has been dubbed Rollin’ on the River, will take place June 5 and 6 at Jacksonport State Park on the banks of the White River. On June 5, Riverbilly will perform at 7 p.m., followed by The Marshall Tucker Band at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $17 in advance or $22 at the gate. On June 6, Little Texas will play at 7 p.m., followed by Josh Thompson at 8:30 p.m., with fireworks at the end of the show. Tickets are $12 in advance or at the gate before 4 p.m., and $17 at the gate after 4 p.m. Children 6 and younger will be admitted free on both nights.

Gourd Workshop

POCAHONTAS — The park interpreter at Davidsonville Historic State Park will teach gourd crafting from 9 a.m. to noon June 6 at the park.
