Former N.Y. Gov. Pataki inches toward 2016 starting line

CONCORD, N.H. — Politicians like to say a presidential campaign is a marathon, not a sprint. Republican George Pataki has taken almost a decade just to get to the starting line.

The former three-term New York governor is expected to announce his intentions for the 2016 presidential contest on Thursday after flirting with the idea in both 2008 and 2012. He's scheduled to speak in Exeter, N.H., which served as the state capital during the Revolutionary War and claims to be the birthplace of the Republican Party.

Pataki posted a video on his website declaring "the system is broken," and talked about his experience as governor. "It's time to stand up, protect our freedom and take back this government," he says in the video, which notes it was paid for by "Pataki for President."
