NLR lawyer to run for district bench

Paula Juels Jones, a North Little Rock assistant city attorney, announced on Wednesday her candidacy for North Little Rock district judge.

Jones will run for the position that District Judge Jim Hamilton has held for 21 years. Hamilton isn't seeking re-election, his son, Nathan Hamilton, confirmed Wednesday. The nonpartisan judicial elections are now set for May 2016.

Jones, a lifelong resident of North Little Rock, has been an assistant city attorney since 2007 and began the North Little Rock Teen Court juvenile diversion program. She was previously a deputy prosecutor for Pulaski and Perry counties for six years and for Lonoke County for four years.

"My experience as a prosecutor and working in North Little Rock city government gives me the best perspective to serve as District Judge," Jones said in a news release. "I know first hand the needs and challenges of North Little Rock, which this court predominantly serves."
