University loses another administrator

FAYETTEVILLE -- Another top administrator is leaving the University of Arkansas.

Danny Pugh, UA's vice provost for student affairs, is leaving the university for a similar role at Texas A&M University.

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved Pugh's appointment Wednesday. Pugh visited Texas A&M in March as one of two finalists for the job.

His appointment there begins Aug. 1. His salary will be $292,000, according to Texas A&M spokesman Lane Stephenson. Pugh earns $197,498 annually at UA.

Other administrators leaving UA include Chancellor David Gearhart, retiring July 30; Provost Sharon Gaber, leaving to become president at the University of Toledo; and Sam M. Walton College of Business Dean Eli Jones, also joining Texas A&M.

Pugh joined UA in 2005 as dean of students and was named a vice provost in 2009.

"My family and I have enjoyed a remarkable 10 years as part of the Razorback Family," Pugh said in a written statement released by UA. "I want to extend special thanks to Drs. Gearhart and Gaber. Ours was a great team!"

Pugh's statement went on to thank various others with UA as well as the student body.

"I got up every day thinking about making the student experience better for our students and in return they made my life all the better," Pugh said.

An interim vice provost for student affairs will be named at a later date, according to UA.
