I-440, I-40 interchange lane closures set

Work on a pair of highway interchanges will require lane closures in the Little Rock metropolitan area next week, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Friday.

Starting Monday, work to erect structural steel for the interchange ramp that takes traffic from Interstate 430 north to Interstate 40 west will require overnight lane closures on I-40 in North Little Rock, highway officials said.

The work will require alternating lane closures of the I-40 eastbound and westbound lanes between mile markers 147 and 148 and will involve short, intermittent halts in traffic while crews work over the travel lanes, the department said. The lane closure will run from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly from Monday through the end of the week, with short traffic stops occurring intermittently between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., officials said.

Traffic will be controlled using barrels, electronic message boards and warning signs, highway officials added.

In addition, a bridge inspection will reduce the width on the highway ramp that connects Interstate 440 westbound to Interstate 30 eastbound for two days next week in Little Rock, state highway officials said Friday.

The ramp at exit 138-A, from the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport to downtown Little Rock, will be reduced in width during the inspection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, weather permitting, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Traffic will be controlled using barrels and warning signs, the department added.
