Rutledge warns of summer wedding scams

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is warning brides and grooms who are planning a summer wedding to be wary of scams.

Rutledge said couples need to take precautions to avoid having their big day turn into a big pay day for con artists posing as vendors. She has issued a consumer alert to help Arkansans avoid being taken advantage of by wedding scammers.

Rutledge said reports of wedding scams have surfaced across the nation including in Colorado, where a couple purchased their honeymoon online only to have their plans canceled when the booking company disappeared. In Massachusetts, more than 80 couples were victims of a videographer who never provided their video footage.

Rutledge urged couples to research and compare vendors, get multiple estimates and check references for all.
