Tulsa County sheriff's major 'no longer an employee'

TULSA — The Tulsa County sheriff's office spokesman who was placed on leave after the fatal shooting of a restrained man by a volunteer deputy is "no longer an employee" of the office.

Sheriff Stanley Glanz said in a news release Friday that Shannon Clark is no longer an employee and referred questions to spokesman Terry Simonson.

Simonson and Clark didn't return calls for comment Friday morning.

Clark was placed on leave May 11 pending a performance evaluation. He said at the time that he didn't know why he was on leave.

In April, Clark denied the existence of a 2009 memo in which concerns were expressed about reserve deputy Robert Bates. The memo was later released by an attorney for the family of the man Bates killed April 2.
